Ah good point. There are two smart quotes features in OP. One is in text file import - there's nothing you can do about changing the smart quotes used there.

The other is smart quotes as you type, and that is done by the applet.

Smart quotes on text import could probably be made usable by setting up a rule for the "fluff" applet which would let you change them to what you want with a single click post import.

Of course I don't know what these symbols are - give me a Unicode value. But it seemed to me the scrambling was a result of passing through Brian's mail program not mine.
