Nah, I think you were at fault here. Playing fighting games isn't about winning, it's about having a good time. Those two things are never compatible. I've been thinking about this for a while now. I think during the tournament on Saturday, we should all take turns doing moves and combos in our matches. That way no one will feel left out. If anyone wins more than 1 match in a row, they should be asked to leave.
