I'd venture to say that if you're modelling the early 1960's, that is prior
to 1962, you'd probably want to have everything in block lettering. After
early 1962 I think the script would be appropriate on some freight cars.
I think 1963 is the magic turn over year. We've had this discussion before
and it would be best to go through the list archives to get the details.
However, if my memory is correct, the first cars delivered with script were
a bunch of box cars in December 1963. The GP-30's were the first
locomotives delivered with script in March 1963. Company drawings to
repaint older locomotives didn't start to come out until 1965.
