I think he's planning on replacing the cable assy - easy enough if you know
the safety points and have some skills with TV style repairs but not for the
average person that hates screaming like a girl when they get nailed and
thrown across the room.

It depends on which end the break is on, monitor side or computer side.
Tight quarters to replace and solder a 15 pin high density connector if it
is the computer end of the cable. Much easier of a task if you have the
tools to crimp the pins on the end of the wire and then insert into the
connecter. Monitor end of the cable is not normally much of a problem, but
also not normally where the break occurs unless the monitor is pushed back
against something like a wall.

This is a good one for Russ, but if you are careful, this should not be
that hard to do. Assuming you have a CRT, be (damned!) careful of high
voltage from the tube. Otherwise, just remove the cover on the monitor and
check the connections. They used to be soldered on TV sets, and I haven't
opened a monitor for several years. Once you pull the cover you will see how
things are connected.

In my workshop I have a monitor that runs 24/7. The cord/switch went out
years ago, and I just "fixed" it so I can use it to build/repair computers.

Is it hard to replace these things? It seems I have a losse wire (or two)
on one of my monitors. You wiggle it, the screen turns from Red to Blue
to Yellow. :-O I think it turned green on time.
