Any trainings in Collaborative Law: I have done the initial family training
with Sandra Burns in 2000, and attended several hours of collaborative
training at the Advanced Family Seminar in Texas this month. I am working
with the Texas Collaborative Law Council Inc. to draft protocols and a
participation agreement for use in civil disputes. We intend to conduct
training in the near future in the civil area. Four years ago when I was
chair of the Dallas Bar Association ADR Section, I established the Collab
Law Subsection. I have presented papers on Collab law to the Association of
Attorney Mediators and on several occasions to the Dallas Bar. Yesterday I
present the participation agreement recently adopted by the Council to the
Dallas Bar.
What is your interest in Collaborative Law: A lot! After having done
family litigation for over ten years, I have no use for it. Collaborative
law gives an honest person a level playing field in a dispute. There is no
ambush, no hiding the ball, and no taking advantage of the other side
through legal technicalities. I don't have to keep charging a client who
can't afford a law suit for unnecessary motions and discovery. I could go
on, but I am preaching to the choir. This is the only way that I will
continue to handle cases. I am done with litigation.
