*My interest in family law: I practiced family law with James, McElroy
and Diehl in Charlotte, NC for over 10 years, where I was trained to be a
heavy-hitting bulldog litigator. My style, however, was to litigate only
cases that absolutely could not be settled outside the courtroom doors.
Approximately 4 years ago, I first heard about collaborative divorce and
began to realize that in what can be described as the dramatic opera of
family dissolution, I could guide my clients through the process of
thoughtfully resolving their conflicts with integrity and dignity. I have
since focused my practice on collaborative law, trained as a mediator and
have devoted myself to staying out of the courtroom. Approximately three
months ago, I left my partnership with my former firm and formed King
Collaborative Family Law, where I practice exclusively collaborative
divorce law. I am thrilled to practice in a manner that elevates all
involved to focus on rebuilding for the future rather than dismantling the
past and battling differences in the courtroom. *
