Hi all,
It appears that there are some misunderstanding going on here. Also, since
reset issues are something that a lot of people are having, I'd like to take
you on a tour of how Windows CE and KeySoft itself boots in hopes that it'll
give you a better idea on how to troubleshoot these issues:
The process of your BrailleNote resetting (or booting) can be divided into a
number of distinct yet dependent phases: power up, firmware/ROM, loading the
Windows CE OS and loading KeySoft. I'll describe the sequence at which an
Apex boots from deep sleep mode (the usual power up):
1. Power-up: once a user flips the power switch, the CPU on the Apex
(Freescale i.MX31 at 532 MHz) will load a small program from Flash ROM which
houses the bootloader and startup code. In case of a warm reset (pressing
the reset button), Apex will skip some steps and load the bootloader
immediately.
2. Firmware/ROM/bootloader: once the firmware is in charge, Apex will first
check to see if it has enough power to continue startup. If it does not,
it'll play two beeps, else it'll play a tone. Once Apex sees that it has
sufficient power, it'll load Windows CE kernel from ROM, as this is the
default boot device. In case of KeySoft upgrades, just before Windows CE
loads, ROM will work on boot device partitions, while display "restoring
partition" on the braille display; once that is done, it'll load Windows CE.
3. Starting Windows CE: Once the bootloader finds Windows CE ROM image,
bootloader will ask Windows CE to load to memory (RAM). This is perhaps one
of the longest steps in the boot phase, hence Apex will show boot percentage
as Windows CE is loaded to RAM. Critical errors such as not enough memory or
other memory issues will prevent bootloader from completing its loading
routine, bringing Apex's boot process to a halt. Once Windows CE is in RAM,
Windows CE will take over, which continues startup by checking for connected
devices, testing Flash Disk for errors (in case Apex didn't shutdown
properly) and loading KeySoft.
4. Loading KeySoft.exe: One of Windows CE's job is to load programs, and as
part of its startup routine, loads KeySoft. KeySoft is loaded early to
inform users about memory scan (in case CE detects that it didn't shutdown
properly). Once everything is loaded, KeySoft.exe plays startup music and
announces its version.

It goes to 63 and ges to 71.  I waited awhile and nothing.  I have to do a
reset 5 times in a row and then memory san appears and starts normally.

You didn't do what I told you.
You have to wait until the thing finishes! It will take five minutes or
longer to work! Let it do what it will do.  Just let the thing reset!

Whatup yas.  Do not do the 1-2-3  reset because then yyr'al's data and
dictionary gets stuffed and then you have to get the dictionary you were
licened for.
Do the 4-5-6 reset and that sh'all fix it.

Hi,
Memory scan is performed when Windows CE detects that something might have
gone wrong with how flash disk stores data.  This is usually invoked after
you do a forced hard reset (that is, doing a 5 second reset while a file is
opened, a website was loading, etc.) where chances of data loss is high.

You are doing the resets correctly.  Your bn is not responding correctly.
It is not doing the reset you tell it to.  I would say take out the battery,
unplug the ac adapter, wait a few minutes and put your battery back in.  If
this does not work, do a flash disk format.  Back up your files to a
different storage device first.  If none of this works, I would say it's
time to send your bn to hw for repair.

Hey, y'all.  I'm worried that something is wrong with my unit.
Here for the last couple days or so, regardless of how long I hold my reset
button, my Apex always says "Memory scan".  Also, half of the resets I must
perform don't finish as it will get to about 72 and stop, forcing me to
press the reset button again.  I thought that the memory scan resets were
the 7-second press resets, but I'm getting this message even on the
press-release resets.  I hope I haven't made everyone confused!
Just
wondering if y'all have had this problem.  Let me know.
