I eat carefully, drink carefully, make sure there is a lid on my drink, like
bottled water, other than that, I wipe my desk down afterward, just be very
careful whatever you do near PC's regardless whether it be drinking or eating.
I have a story that maybe I should tell you another time but it is about my
experience at OCB that made my approach of thinking about how others do stuff
at the computer while plunking away at the keyboard and yes, I have to stay on
top of my family members who are sighted, love to tell that story to them until
they get it through their skulls as a warning. Anyway, maybe I'll just tell it
to you now just don't chuckle. I was at OCB the Orientation Center for the
Blind in Albany California and I happened to be in the computer room at the
time an accident occurred. This lady was practicing her computer lesson and I
was practicing to read braille music when all the sudden I hear something knock
over and my thoughts were: Oh crap, hope that doesn't go toward the computer,
and it did. The lady just sat there covered in soda and chicken noodle soup and
she had just gone blind 2 months before this incident due to glaucoma. She was
of course helpless and I was the only one in the room and had to help out. I
called the custodian who is a pianist friend of mine name KC or however he
spells his name, and had told him it was an emergency at night time when all
his doings was during the day time. He told me exactly what to do without
panicking and no one got electrocuted and thus, she learned her lesson just
from her experience and my saying so.

well I use a laptop which doesn't leave room for fod or a tray on my lap.
lol. i'm robably in the minority. but i do have teens and one of them left a
soda on the desk unattended. me being blind went into the computer room and
sat down. just as I went to adjust my urganomic chair, I somehow jarred the can
of coke and it fell and spilled all over me and the keyboard. now I refuse to
even allow a speck of anything in the same area where m computers are.

Hi, gang, I have a computer in my bedroom but no chair. So I have a
keyboard with a long extension cord so I can type away with the keyboard on my
lap while I'm sitting on my bed. I have been known to eat a meal while at the
computer; however, there is an easy way for you hungry people to feed
yourselves and still be sure crumbs or goopy sauces or anything that might slip
into the keyboard from getting there. Solution: get yourselves a a tray table
with legs short enough so they can be folded down and the tray can sit on your
legs. Then your food will mess up your tray and not your keyboard. Naturally,
all of you, being resourceful and intelligent people have probably thought of
this, right? Of course, right! Mind you, this works if you are sitting on the
bed and using the computer. If you are sitting at a computer desk, get
yourselves a tray of some kind or other and that might do the trick. Regards,
Kim.

Honestly, Cindy, keyboards are so cheap these days, you can get a new one
for $5. I'd just get a new one if you're not comfortable popping off the key
you think is sticking and cleaning under it and then popping the key back on.

You can also tip the keyboard over and gently shake it back and forth to
dislodge anything that might be stuck under the key, if you're like me, and
prone to eating at the computer, you can get crumbs under the keys without even
noticing.

I really don't think I'd put it in the dishwasher.
