Matthew,

Thanks for this post about books about Folk Music. I had not heard about one
of them, the Rough Guide. So,,I will post haste check it out.

I happened to have been the submitter of the Van Ronk Mayor of MacDougal
Street book. And that folk music murder mystery you mentioned. Both very
good reads. Gratifying it is to share at Bookshare. [grin]

Thanks to Chela for her quick proof on the Mayor book. You were great to
jump in there!

I agree with what Kim said also. Folk music, the term has sure gone around
the bend. And Dylan has taken us up and down some highways. Among them
Highway 61. But I'm glad he is out there still a tireless performer.

Funny thing, I think that traditional music is where Folk music really is
at.

But singer songwriters, they have to call themselves something I guess.

I think in some ways John, Paul, George and Ringo were really folk singers.
But we seem to be a people who need our categories.
Just like we must name our rivers and mountains and our flowers, and on and
on.

And thanks for mentioning The Weavers! They are still my heroes in so many
ways.
I have several books about them or their members, I would like to get around
scanning.
One of which I just ordered a used copy, a recently published book of the
writings of Lee Hays.
The other is a biography of Lee Hays by Doris Willen who was not a Weaver,
but a Babysitter.
So stay tuned. I'll keep the scanner warm.

Oh, and there is another book, Matthew, in case you did not know, that is in
our collection.

Which Side Are You On? An Inside History Of The Folk Music Revival In
America
by Dick Weissman copyright 2005

Well may the world go. And thanks.
Rik

Hello, just in case any folk music fans passed by the listings this week, or missed some in the past, this week we got two good books. The Rough Guide To
Bob Dylan came in earlier this week, and just today we got Dave Van Ronk's
memoir The Mayor Of MacDougal Street. Books which have been added in the
past include the two big tomes on Woody Guthrie, plus a third, and a folk
music murder mystery set in Greenwich Village called Such A Killing Crime,
written by Rob Lopresti. Perhaps there are other folk music books that I've missed, and there are also some books about country and bluegrass music, but
I thought I'd write in to point out these good books.
Thanks a lot.
Matthew
