At this point, I would reinstall Bookport Transfer. What have you got to lose?
I don't know how. I can't seem to find any sort of "Remove" button. I found a "Disable Drive" checkbox (Actually, I think it was "Enable Drive" but it was checked), but that's near as it gets. I tried just hitting my Delete key when my cursor was on the MP3 player, but to no avail. I may just try disabling the drive; at this point, I haven't much to lose.

I'd delete the mp3 player and reboot.

The device manager doesn't say anything about the BookPort. It does, in fact, say something about a TTS MP3 player. It might be time to call tech support.

Well, you can accomplish the same thing with the tab key. I still saw no check-box to change the drive letter. (If I sound a bit terse, please don't take it to heart; I'm just quite frustrated with this situation.)
It doesn't seem to be so much a problem of Windows recognizing the Bookport
(although it may be misidentifying it), but rather getting Bookport Transfer
to see that Bookport is there. What is *supposed* to be there? When you
highlight the Bookport drive with Windows Explorer and/or look at it with
the device manager, what *should* be there? Should it say "Bookport?" When
I look at Bookport with my device manager, it calls it "SD Inc
TTSMP3player".

There needs to be an additional step in those directions that isn't obvious to someone who isn't looking for it. Between steps 3 and 4, you need to press F6 to get to the list view on the right.

I tried following those instructions and my control panel isn't laid out the same way. There's no check box to change the drive letter. A friend told me the documentation seems to have been written with Windows XP Pro in mind rather than Windows XP Home, but since I've never seen Windows XP Pro, I can only shrug. I just know the instructions don't fit what I see on my screen. In fact, I've looked through properties and tried all kinds of things, but I can't seem to find a method of changing the drive letter.

toHi,
The most common reason in my experience for the transfer software notbe showing the Book Port is because there is a drive letter conflict.ArePortyou using a system that is either on a network or that has other usb devices connected to it. If so, follow the instructions in the Bookthemanual for resolving drive letter conflicts.

As for the batteries, I'll try replacing them. I'm using the onesyourcame with the Bookport. It seems to work fine, but you never know. Thanks.

One more suggestion I would have is to check and possibly replacewhenbatteries. As for that silly autoplay dialog, I just press escapestrange.it comes up and go on my way with the transfer software.

Thanks, Sarah. You know, I tried that and it did do somethingboxWhen I reconnected the Bookport after resetting it, I got a dialogandthat said "Autoplay" and had a Cancel button. It stayed there for a bitMP3then went away.
I think, near as I can tell, that my computer thinks BookPort is antellplayer ... which it is, I suppose ... but I'm unclear as to how toboxWindows not to treat it like an ordinary MP3 player. I found a checksoftware,in the library proprties of the drive that said "Enable Drive" and it as checked, but I feared if I unchecked the box then Windows wouldn't acknowledge Bookport's being connected at all.
<Frustrated> I'm pretty savvy with my computer when it comes totha'tsbut when hardware issues come up I start to glaze over and whimper pathetically. <Grin>

Hi BoomerDad,
Have you tried resetting your BookPort with 2+b? I had your same problem once and this is what fixed it for me.
HTH and good luck,
Sarah

Thanks for the tip; unfortunately it changed nothing.
It seems to see the Bookport as a TTS-MP3 player. Essentially,Windowscorrect ... but nowhere does it say Bookport ... unless I go to(andExplorer and if I look at the Send To menu, it does list Bookporethatit says "Bookport") as one of the send-to options. I tried just usingthatto send a book to Bookport, but it didn't work. <Sigh> Couldn't bebirthdayeasy. Grrrr... I don't get it. It's like everyone knows about theexceptparty but the guest of honor! Everyone in my computer's innards seems to recognize Bookport ...software,Bookport Transfer!!

Try rebooting your computer with the Bookport connected.
