Hi.

I don't think I'm divulging too much.

NLS has deemed the PC to lack sufficient security for their digital rights
management (DRM). Since the Book Port requires some processing on the PC before
content is transfered there is no way to do it that will meet the requirements
of NLS. We did make a proposal but it was rejected.
The Book port came out long before NLS knew what the new digital talking books
would be like and so there was no way to plan ahead for it.

The biggest problem with playing NLS books on the Book Port actually isn't key
management or DRM but that we have no way to add support for the AMR Wideband
Plus (.3gp) audio format they are using rather than mp3.

So, there it is. The Icon Braille Plus will be able to play NLS books sometime
in the near future and the Book Port 2 will when we finally get it ready.

We are working hard to try and make them the best players available once they
are finally completed but just have no way at this time to support these books
on the origional Book Port.

Regards,
Keith

Not that I would understand it, but What? "NLS doesn't want access with the
computers?" Do you mean they don't want you to have access, or they don't
really want us to?
