Hmm, I'll have to try that. well, I'll go grab my unit now, copy the root books dir, and reformat, then let you all know what happened. if it works? well, alex, you'll get a hug, heh, because I thought I was going to have to spend hours and hours gettting these files put back on the unit.

thanks

I don't even bother with the transfer software. Once it has transfered files once, I just use the normal copying and such to move everything around. As long as you keep the exact file names intact and make sure everything is in the folders the software put it in, you are fine. Copying and pasting should be no problem. I have done a lot with files on my braillenote, even renameing some, but as long as I put the names back the bp acted like nothing had happened.

Have a great day,
Alex

I'm not sure that it can be that simple, for though you can move
the entire
bookport folders to your hard drive without any problems, each
time you
transfer something to the bookport, the transfer software also
loads onto
the bookport indexing files and other files that the folders
already have.
I don't know if the transfer software will simply acknowledging
the existing
bookport files that were transferred with the books originally.

Ow, that is going to take a long, long time...I can't just move
the books
folder to my hard drive, format the card, then transfer the
books folder
back onto the root of book port?

thanks

What I would suggest is that if your computer is back in order,
that you
transfer the books back to the computer, and either reformat
your card
and retransfer, or try transferring them to a new card.

Unfortunately, you'll have to transfer the books back to the
computer
manually. That is, you'll have to look for the bookport root
directory
through my computer or Windows Explorer, which will identify it
as usb
mass storage device drive e or f etc. depending on how many
more drives
you have on your machine.

Then you'll have to go into the folders, if you set any up, and
look for
the files that you transferred. The files that you're looking
for are
those that only have the txt extensions, if that's how you
formatted all
the books you transferred. Ignore the files that have ix
extensions or
other extensions that you do not recognize. From here you can
either
remove each file with a control X and transfer them to the
desired folder
on your computer, using a control V, or you can open the file,
and then
use the save as command to save it to the folder you want.

Subject: [bookport] having a bit of a problem

Hi, all

Well, heres my problem. I was reading a book a while back and
the volume
kind of went softer, this is a text file, btw. So I hit stop,
(number 2),
and nothing happens. I hit 2+b, and so I got fs card fail. I
went to play
the file again, or make doubletalk speak again I mean, but it
said there
were no files. What I did then was removed the batteries, put
them back
in. it worked just beautifully, I reset my settings, went back
to my
reading, (of course it left off at the place at which I'd
started reading
to begin with), so I moved to where it gave me issues, started
reading
again. so we get to about 10 more minutes into it, and I hear
buffer
overflow, moving on. Buffer overflow, moving on. What exactly
does this
mean? What should I do? I don't want to have to format the flash
card
because i have books on it that I don't have on my laptop
anymore, mainly
due to a reformat of the hard drive. Can I somehow back these
up, anyway?
This has been doing it off and on. I'm not sure what I did, but
it worked
fine for a while, but its recently started again, and its
somewhat
frustrating. I've been using my ipod to read audiobooks, but
this just
goes to show how great the bookport is, I can't live without it.
If I can
back up files, which extention should I look for? (each file has
these
underline, for example, underline db or some such. Can I just
delete the
underline from a certain file so I can retransfer it? Or is
there another
way to fix this issue? I'm sort of hard put to transfer those
html books
back to the unit, I find it tedius to go into internet explorer
for each
file, hit applications, and send to book port. I know it can be
done from
book port transfer, but for some reason some html files look,
well, very
wierd on the unit, I get the <p> and </P> taggs, which, well, I
can't
read with those, heh, I can't concentrate on the book. Sending
from
internet explorer seemed to fix this issue. I'm not saying its
annoying,
it just involves a bit more concentration and time, which I
guess I have,
that is, if I can back up this here flash card at all (that's
about hmmm,
I can't even count, about 400 mb of text files), no idea how
many files,
perhaps 1000? 2000? quite a few, anyway...why do I even have so
many when
you can only read one book at a time? no idea! guess they just
built up
over the years...<grin>.
