The reason which was given in the Book Courier's user's manual, and this
might apply to Book Port, is that Audible's Number Four files already
utilize very little encryption, and the other proprietary formats would
require more cost and a fair amount of trouble to deal with. Like you,
however, I'd love to see this happen.

Sounds good, but even with bigger memory cardcs coming out, etc. I still wish something could be done so that we could use smaller format Audible.com books. I know this has been discussed before, but I am not sure I ever saw an answer as to why only format 4 is used.
