Maybe it wouldn't be a good idea to have your flash card in your pocket while
going through a security check, as that would set off the alarm of the security
system, and cause the security people to subject the card to even more
electronic scrutiny, damaging it if it wasn't damaged in the first place. I've
never had a problem with my bookport while going through security checks, but
I'm thinking that perhaps next time I'll put the cf card in my purse, in my
wallet.

I suppose it's always a good idea to remove any removable memory from a
device and put it in your pocket prior to sending it through airport x-ray.
At least, Deborah, you got to know your BookPort a bit better.

All of the files and folders were gone. The flash card was as clean as the
day I bought it. I know the files were there because I started reading a
book on the way to the airport.
I have taken the Book Port through airport security many times without
mishap. This was not the usual take your shoes off, dump everything in the
basket, go through the machine, and pick up your stuff at the other end. We
did that part except for the collect your stuff at the end. Even though the
alarm didn't go off, we all got to go through the fun and games of a
personal search. By the time we could collect our belongings and get on our
way, we had to run to get to the plane on time.
When I tried to read more of the book I had started on the way to the
airport, I got the "no files" message.
I was not a happy person, but there were people on the plane who were a lot
more annoyed than I was. I think furious would be an under estimate of how
they felt. I hadn't lost anything I couldn't replace. I just didn't have
anything to read for a week.
You should have heard the people with digital cameras who discovered their
flash cards were empty and they didn't have any of the pictures they had
taken on vacation, at a wedding, or at other special events. They couldn't
replace those.
It seems that any device using a fc had a very empty one.
Which is why I said you know you are desperate for something to read when
you read the manual several times in one week. I think it is a good idea to
read it from time to time. Doing so refreshed my memory on several things.
I was relieved to find out that no harm had come to the fc.
