Well, if APH tech support says that it's not a big issue, I assume that they
know what they're talking about. Ten second increments are nothing and I'm
not losing any sleep over it.

I guess my whole point was this. Even with the Beep turned off, the
unit is still draining batteries if keys other than the 1 and 3 are
pressed. Because if a key is bumped the unit switches on for 10
seconds and then turns off. If you do this enough, it certainly will
drain the batteries.
