Hi,
I guess my whole point was this. Even with the Beep turned off, the unit is still draining batteries if keys other than the 1 and 3 are pressed. Because if a key is bumped the unit switches on for 10 seconds and then turns off. If you do this enough, it certainly will drain the batteries.
