We're just recommending that you not use rechargeables during the update process until we get to the bottom of the unusual failure rate of this last update. >>> ptorpey@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Tuesday, February 22, 2005 2:19:01 PM >>> Larry, Are these warnings about not installing the new beta if you use rechargeable batteries, etc. something that you think is a problem with the hardware/firmware or is this just to be on the safe side since you've had some unexpected failures? I assume that we'll be able to download new betas of firmware once you've got a handle on the problems you are tracking down? I've always used rechargeable batteries on my BP and have never had any problems. Actually, I've had the few intermittent problems people have been reporting on this list (i.e., text re-reading sections, Bookport occasionally stopping for no apparent reason and requiring a re-set, etc.), but like others, I haven't been able to reproduce these problems or find a direct cause and effect. Usually a quick re-set cures any problems. Anyway, I hope the use of rechargeable batteries doesn't turn out to be a problem. -- Pete Date: Mon, 21 Feb 2005 15:25:58 -0500 From: "LARRY SKUTCHAN" <lskutchan@xxxxxxx> Subject: [bookport] Beta 13 Firmware We have just placed a new beta of the firmware on the site. Please read carefully: Do not use the firmware update if you are using rechargable batteries. Before you check for updates, insure that your battery level is at least 90%. Insure that you have done chkdsk to check the integrety of your flash card. If you have problems with loose battery contacts, do not update the firmware. While it is criticle for us to test the process of updating firmware, if your machine has been acting funny, do not try this update until we have more information about what is causing failures during the update process.
