The part which is sloppy for readers is not the page numbers or breaks but rather the titles or garbled titles and junk characters which the stripper leaves at the tops of pages.
Page numbers and page breaks are absolutely vital. E. At 05:39 PM 3/7/2008, you wrote:
Sloppy for readers? Isn't knowing the book pages part of the fact that these books are books, after all and not just text documentation? :) Page numbers will help in circumstances where not having them could be a hindrance, suppose I wanted someone to find such and such on page 125, and with the page numbers quite visible I can go to that page and have a sighted person go right to the same page and find x y and z, or even d e and f later on in the same chapter. Then, there is text books, outlines, etc. etc. The thing which can be annoying is the breaking of words over page breaks which is the norm in the book I just scanned and am proofing right now, and not really sure what to do about that, but the author or printer constructed it in that way so, visually, or with a scanner, it seems that the way it is intended to look so ... though maybe, the word, predictable, as predict 95 (page break able is the norm and not the exception, in this book, that is. First, it adds trouble for volunteers attempting to preserve page numbers and page breaks, chapter titles and so forth. Second, the presence of titles and headers or footers in books in the collection simply make the resulting product seem sloppy to the reader. I do understand about time lines associated with grants. I fully support bookshare. I have always done so. The length of time for fixing of some of these basic issues is what makes me speak up. Many many things have simply gone on for a long long time. E.
