Hi Cindy,
Your notes are accurate—no bold, a single space before and after the number,
and superscript is preferred but not required.
This is all in the proofing manual...

I'm glad you asked because went to my saved notes and found this :
a. The footnote indicator utilizing a number in the text should be
superscripted, if possible.
b. There must be a space before and after the superscripted number.
I'd forgotten about the space before and after; it's been a long time since I
proofed a nonfiction book
the bolding was only for me to find ths easily in my notes; the numbers are not
to be bold
as I know, i.e. the last thing I heard and it was some time ago, they should
be superscripted and don't need to be in bold

Hey guys! This will be a bit OT (off topic),
I was wondering what some of you Braille users are using to read their screens
or other Braille things. I'm just trying to find things I could use that use
Braille instead of voice reader and/or big font letters.
Thanks,
Janet

Hi Susan,
She said that Chapter 1 started on Arabic page 9. There must be preliminary
pages before the page on which Chapter 1 starts. There may be one or more
blank pages, but there has to be at least a title page, and a copyright page,
and quite likely a few other preliminary pages as well She mentioned a back
cover, so that's another one.

So, Evan, in Christin's example, does that mean we have eight blank pages
before page 9? Thanks.
Susan

Hello Kristin,
For the page numbers, if Chapter 1 begins with page 9, number the pages
backward from there with Arabic numbers until you get to Arabic 1. If you
have any pages left over before that, use Roman numerals for those, numbering
backwards until you get to Roman i. Or, start from the first page with Roman
i and use Roman numerals until you get to Arabic page 1.
Someone else should, and probably will, chime in here, but it looks to me
like your example of putting brackets around the word [Caption] and then
placing the caption after that looks correct.
Hope that helps.
Evan

Hey everyone at bookshare!
Hopefully everyone is having a great day here at BKS! I am going to be
working on a couple of books and I have two different questions that pertains
to the various books. My first is I am going to be working on Kate Rider By
HESTER BURTON and there are no page numbers until I get to the actual start
of the book. Am I suppose to put any page numbers like Roman Numerals in this
book if they are not there? For instance it just starts with Chapter 1 and a
page number of 9 with nothing else to indicate that there are any other page
numbers throughout the back cover, title page, ect.
If I need to provide the page numbers should I just use the Roman Numerals?
Okay onto my other question which is a little more complicated of doing
images within a book correctly. I am also going to be working on Without
Getting Killed or Caught: The Life and Music of Guy Clark By TAMARA SAVIANO
The images appear at the back of the book and I am going to provide an
example because when I did images before I f ollowed the pattern of the
following of:
[Image: with a little description of the photo.] [Caption] With the actual
caption of the image.
However in this book it just goes the following of:
[image caption.] Guy created the album artwork for Lightnin’ Hopkins’s
1968 album Free Form Patterns. Courtesy Guy Clark.
Is there a different way I should be addressing these images or just leaving
it this way that I have provided within the example above?
Thanks for any of your guys help with both of these questions and I do hope
everyone is having a great day!
Thanks
Kristin
