Hi. Very well put. Putting it that way makes more sense. I guess my reasoning is the same as when volunteers remind others about removing split words in books, telling them how to scan, etc. I was trying to be helpful to all while addressing a concern I had. I think I have a better understanding of copyright law than most on this list and I didn't want people to fall into a trap of posting all sorts of quotes which shouldn't be posted. I know of at least a few cases where various lawyers do use search engines and find the various books etc which they feel should not belong. They threaten to close down sites who have violated such copyright law. The difference is that those sites post the entire books, but the books are public domain in the countries that they are posted in. It is a similar thing here. There are lots of quotes from lots of other sources which are not part of the original book. They show up on the search engines and that's bad. As I said from the beginning, I'm happy to back off if I'm wrong. Since I have been corrected, I'll let it drop.

The policy I am referring to is the validation instructions I received off list when I decided to volunteer. They were posted on the list also shortly after, but that was over a year ago. It might be a good idea to post the current instructions since things like page breaks were not dealt with at the time.

I guess what I was trying to say is, why is a volunteer reminding other
volunteers what to do when it's with respect to something that staff must
know about. I mean, if BookShare admins don't know that material is quoted
from the book.....
Therefore if it was of concern, BookShare admins would have already
addressed it on the list. So, if you think they are overlooking something,
wouldn't it be best to write them directly?
I know Gustavo occasionally comments on the list, but it is not clear
that he reads every message. I know I attempt to, but I also know that
things that are sent directly to me are read first.
