If we need asterisks to retain blank lines in the middle of pages, why not at the bottom, top, and below the page numbers? This is really confusing, and the last couple of days is the first time I've ever heard of it.

The asterisks replace the blank lines For some reason that I don't
quite understand blankj lines cause problems

Thanks Sue,
Okay; is it then asterisks, blank line, chapter heading, blank line,
asterisks? I’ve only had a few books with chapter headings in the middle;
that’s why my confusion. I’m sorry!

(big sigh) It is my understanding that if a chapter heading is in the middle of a page, we need the asterisks to retain the skipped line. Just as we use
them when there is a change of scene.

Yes, but we need to put a blank line before and after chapter headings to
‘protect’ them, or that’s what we’ve been told, because the bookshare tools might harm them in some way. This is the very first time I’ve heard that we
need to put in 3 asterisks. So, is this a new thing for us to do or not?

It is my understanding that the conversion tool eliminates all blank lines, so the asterisks are to retain blank lines, that is, lines with no text. If
nothing was put on the line, the tool would eliminate it.

Hi Valerie and other friends,
Putting three asterisks is a new thing, yes. Also, I thought that we
were supposed to ‘protect’ chapter headings with a blank line before and
after the headings. What are we supposed to do now?

Is the three asterisks a new thing? I was not aware of that and did not do it in my Kay Tracey paperbacks. I hate getting things wrong! I can fix it while I still have the book, if so; I think I remember which one it was...

Hi Laura,

Vivian is correct, please leave it as is and add the three asterisks!

I also had one where the chapter started on a middle of the page, but it was that way in the book. What I did was separate it by using the 3 asterisks.

I have been working on a book that is almost complete however, I have an
issue with Chapter positioning. The book is in Parts broken down into
chapters. The chapters sometimes begin within a page and not on a new

because it is not available on either Amazon Peek or Google Books. Do I
move the chapters to the top of a new page or leave as is?

book is Dr. Cyclops by Henry Kuttner
