Hi David,
I was a long-time user of L4U (15 years), until the product just wasn’t working
anymore. I also shopped around, tested a lot of products, and couldn’t find one
that fit all of my needs.
Finally, I found a small, Canadian company that has a product that is perfect
for us: Insignia Software. It’s a complex program, and after 1-1/2 years I’m
still learning ways to use it, but it is the only product that serves all of
our needs. It is far less expensive than the competition for intitial outlay,
and costs about the same as L4U for annual hosting and support. Their support
is wonderful, and they have always been very responsive to my requests.
One caveat: L4U corrupted most of our MARC records, and Insignia and I had to
work for some time finally fix them!

Hi all,
I am new to basil and am excited to get feedback from all of you if you have
the time. My name is David and I fell into the position of the librarian when
our former librarian decided to move on.
I am looking for a new library system as the one we have is old and I no longer
get tech help. I cannot use the checkmarc app as the system is old and I cannot
update it.
The current system in use is the L4U and my computer is a MacOSX, 10.6.8; (I
think I need a new desktop as well). We have approximately 8,200 books in our
stacks.
So, what system would you recommend? Would I be able to transfer my library
file over to the new system?
I will have more questions I'm sure but thank you for your response and hope to
hear from you soon.
