I had noticed that Grimaldi seemed pretty bright, Could that have been it? Let me clarify that as far as eclipses I've seen it was the darkest, apparently many of you have seen 'em darker. I think Jack's assessment on the Danjin scale was accurate. I too saw it darker toward the center of the shadow and also noticed the ring near the edge of the shadow. I noticed a small bright feature, which I assumed was something of higher elevation near the bright limb of the moon, as it was coming out of eclipse. It definitely was not during totality. I wonder if we observed the same thing. It was interesting how some seas (not familiar with the moon and I don't have my moon book here) were darker than others.
