AJ, Bill etc.. IC 342 is a good test of a observing site, but also a good test of your finding skills if you are not a G0-To user. Have observed this object in a number of instruments, but some of the best were in wide-field instruments such as 6" Houghton Cassegrain f4 with a 32 Erfle, 6" Meade SN6, 6" refractor (AP) and also 25x150 Fujinon Binoculars. With larger scopes, more detail is seen , but I find that after 12" is passed, this object looks remarkably the same at any aperture up to 30". The Fornax and Sculptor Dwarf galaxies are good site tests also. RC -- -- See message header for info on list archives or unsubscribing, and please send personal replies to the author, not the list.
