I had observed Jupiter and Saturn during the day on the Rim in year past. At that time we did not have the benefits of 'parking' scopes, and I had to work their position off the Sun. I have read if you are at the bottom of a long smoke stack, like the one at Humboldt, you can see stars naked eye.
