15480 Empire Rd. Benson, AZ 85602 hm ph: 520-586-2244 It was about the same temperature last night in Benson when I came in at 1:30am. Fortunately, it was calm and clear so it didn't feel bad. Tonight is the diametric opposite, it is already 39 degrees at 9pm, windy with clouds and some rain (or sleet). I'm glad I observed last night. I had some nice observations of NGC 253, the galaxy clusters Abell 119, and the Fornax Cluster, to name a few. Even though there isn't much of an issue with humidity in Arizona I still have issues with eyepiece fogging as you state, Steve, mostly caused by proximity to the human body. I'm seriously thinking about getting some sort of eyepiece heater. Anybody out there have experience with such a thing. Any recommendations - battery-operated or AC, but must warn you that I really detest the small drycell batteries! I can say without fear that it is chilly outside, at least from 10 miles from Wickenburg. My thermometer says 39 F and it feels all of that. I started to fog over the binoculars so I finally gave up. It is nice and clear out, but still chilly. So, for those of you looking to drive out of town as the Moon gets thinner, wherever you are headed, take lots of warm clothes and that thick sleeping bag. I made good use of the activated charcoal hand warmers. It is good that there are deals on lots of warm clothes at the stores. I got a new insulated bib overall from Cabela's that is quite warm. I don't know if the sun shades will be useful at the Antennas site next weekend, we might WANT to sit out in the sun. Clear skies to us all; Steve Coe -- See message header for info on list archives or unsubscribing, and please send personal replies to the author, not the list. -- See message header for info on list archives or unsubscribing, and please send personal replies to the author, not the list.
