Cling on to those beliefs if you like, Steve (H) Setting laser printers to stun... ...but one is always better off to Vulcanize one's Word files by PDFing them. This gives you something that you cannot get from reopening a file in Word - Version Control! A PDF doesn't "update" fields when it displays itself. PDFing is the only manageable way to lock in a version or what I call a "print instance" of a Word file for posterity, no matter what virtual print driver is in use. Reopen a file in Word and it will change, depending on the updateable fields in use and even repaginate, depending on the selected Windows print: driver / resolution; and page size settings. Only printing to file gives similar electronic version control, except that you can only view the output by either using the file to generate a PDF or by resending it to the printer queue - back to bleached dead tree slivers. Sheesh. I'm a Techical Communicator (humanoid input/output device) not a Windows print driver! Now beam me up Scotty, this topic sux. Cheers, Micky G.
