There's no "pass" as such, just how they compare to others going for the same position. Writing samples and referees add to the picture too. Referees have proven more valuable than writing samples in my experience. Hiring anyone is a gamble and you hope for the best. How would a person fair in your test, if they had a good flair....a bit of sense of humor.....and easy going instructions to the given 'mickey mouse' excercise....... Pass?! I assume. This test would indeed be a good judge of the type of person he is....but I'm wondering = if you would know if he is the right person to actually write your manuals. Would you be able to judge if the writer is good at writing corporate instructions being precise and to the point? They help me learn about the person, not just their writing. I get a better idea if they will likely fit into our culture by how they react to being given a "mickey mouse" exercise. The more easy-going they are about it, the better they get on with others. I also look at what they write and have been surprised by the flair of some writers under test=3D20 conditions. I've hired great people and others that I've later regretted. My determining factor now is to go with my "gut instincts" and these annoying little tests tell me a lot about who they are, not just what they present themselves to be. How many of you have taken beautiful manuals to interviews that were designed, written or edited by someone else? ck ************************************************** To post a message to austechwriter, send the message to austechwriter@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe to austechwriter, send a message to austechwriter-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with "subscribe" in the Subject = field.
