I've heard that Windows XP has spyware embedded in it -- that is, softwar=
e that enables MS to spy on its users. One assumes that anti-spyware deve=
loped by MS would not target MS spyware. Does other anti-spyware zap MS' =
spyware?

Microsoft's antispyware is pretty good...I used to use both Adaware and
Spybot regularly on my computer to flush out the nasties - I very
suspiciously tried Microsoft's antispyware when it came out and it found
about 10 spyware programs that the other's hadn't!

It works beautifully, updates itself and checks my puter every night at 2=
am
to give me a fresh toasted report every morning...but wait...it ain't all=

roses. This is on just one computer. On the other (also XP Pro SP2) it go=
es
to 100%CPU usage in a short time and then stays there frozen...this has
happened repeatedly and I can't seem to solve the problem. It's useless o=
n
that puter. It could be possible that a 20GB file and a few 10GB files on=
=20my
puter are killing it (unfortunately I can't easily move them elsewhere at=

this point to test this). The other possibility could be a stuffed SP2
install (common occurence).

Make of that what you will.

cheers

I've stayed away from Microsoft's freebie anti-spyware for all the
reasons recently discussed on this list, and I'm sticking with Spybot
and Ad-Aware.

Has anyone actually tried Microsoft's product?

One of our programmers has downloaded it and he loves it. Is my
colleague just a rusted-on Microsoft supporter, or is this new product
worth downloading?

Allan
