I was recently one of these people that they rang. Here is where it got interesting. When you read between the lines of their questions, each question is designed to qualify you out of unemployment (UE). Have you been sick? (= Medical benefits etc, not UE) Did you look after any family? (Family carer / dependant, not UI) Did you look for fulltime work inside the last week? Do you want fulltime work? Etc etc Now me, I am not listed as unemployed. I have a home business that makes over 100 a week. That's enough to not be unemployed. I was really flabbergasted when I heard on 774 ABC Melbourne (AKA 3LO) some time ago that the unemployment figures are the result of telephone surveys, in which Centrelink has a privately owned marketing company call a supposedly random sample of unemployed people ("Clients" in Centrelink parlance) on their books (actually the usual suspects who are happy to answer phone surveys) to ask their opinion of how the employment situation is going. In other words, the figures for the past three or more decades have been total works of fiction. IMNSHO that's government gone mad. Cheers, Michael Michael E.
