Well Steve (Hudson) et al,

I still love Bill Bryson's Dictionary of Troublesome Words (Penguin Paperback).

Great to stick in front of all those people who over use "utilize", which
really means "to use something for a purpose for which it was never
intended". Sounds about right for most of the IT systems analyses that
I've been handed.

Strunk Jr. and E.B. White's "The Elements of Style" Third Edition With
Index (MacMillan paperback ISBN 0-02-418200-1) is also a venerable
favourite, plus a good Collins English Dictionary, Fourth Australian Edition.

The only other tools you should bring with you are the remarkably uncommon
commonsense, a keen eye for detail and a penchant for consistency.

The most important thing is to focus on the needs of your intended
audience. No stuffy, dust-gathering style manual can give you what you can
always get from your own diligent and personal research into your readers.

Cheers,

Michael Granat
