Jean,
I know how to use the arrow keys and all that just as you noted in your
presentation; however, when I find a stopping point do I press left or right
bracket?
There is an ending of a song that I like, and I want to remove everything
from that point to the start of the track.

I suspect that part of what you wrote is incorrect because of typographical
errors. You indicate that right bracket sets the left marker. It actually
sets the right marker.
To set the left marker, use left bracket or the shift a command you gave.
those commands move the cursor, which acts as the left marker. Right
bracket sets the right marker and the material between the left and right
marker can be deleted or worked with in other ways. that's because the
material between the cursor and the right marker is selected. If you want to
have the cursor at the very start of the file, you don't have to move it at
all. It is always automatically placed at the start of a file and doesn't
move unless you move it. So, if you want to delete material between the
very start of the file and two minutes into the file, you don't do anything
to set the cursor. You just set the right marker.

You say that you should play the file until you get to the place where you
want to set a marker. Playing a file is fine for short times, such as if
you want to set a marker twenty seconds or half a minute into a file. It is
extremely inefficient if you want to set a marker any significant distance
into the file. It makes no sense to let a file play for one minute, two
minutes, five minutes, or longer to get to the place where you want to set a
marker. to do any sort of efficient editing in cases where you move more
than short distances through a file, you must know how to move efficiently
using the left and right arrow keys and the combination of shift left arrow
and shift right arrow.

Please listen to the part of the presentation I gave a link to in my last
message that deals with Audacity. You are wasting lots of time moving
through files if you only do so by playing the file.

Gene
