You have two choices.  If you press right bracket, you have set the end
point.  the cursor is still at the start of the file.  You have now selected
the material between the start of the file and the right marker and can
delete it.
Or you can use the left bracket to move the cursor.  Once you move the
cursor to where you want to edit, use the start to cursor selection option
and then delete.
