The whistle might be due to the fan blades passing close to
something static close to the fan. If that's the case, spacing it
away could fix it.
Did check that before replacing original - space is tight but kept
floating cables as far away as possible. Even if I cured the whistle
the background noise was intolerable. I suspect there is no fan speed
control on the PSU which means my replacement ran at maximum speed. The
old way of curing noisy fans was to drop the smallest amount of machine
oil into the sleeve bearings but there is no way of accessing these. The
other Alan has also reported the noise as well.
