Many people have written GUI wrappers for Argyll at some point, including
me, for private and public use, (mine was in private use only) and AFAIK
there have never been issues precisely because the mechanism for GPL
software is widely understood. I'm sure there is no problem here or rather
there will be no problem here once you conform precisely to the letter of
the AGPL, which Graeme has chosen as a license.
Also, be aware that Argyll gets updated quite frequently, and it is
useful that the user be able to swap the software for a patched version
easily without reloading the GUI from you.
There is a history of issues concerning color management software
licensing, including some firms which limited distribution of generated
profiles.

child, there is nothing to be ashamed for. Really.
So, I don't want Graeme or anybody else to feel bad about this. On the
contrary, I want a solution that will make us all happy. The way I see it,
it*s up to Graeme to advise what is the best way to proceed. After thinking
it over, I don't have a problem to make this project entirely available
under AGPL or any other open source-license. This is one solution I already
offered. The other is, like Edmund suggested and Richard basically
confirmed with one simple sentence, to separate the executable files of the
[color]profiler entirely from Argyll. This solution would protect my source
code, but I don't really feel happy about it, since the poor end-user with
no expert-experience in Argyll will have more troubles getting the app to
work properly. In that point, I might say, that Graeme and me have reached
an agreement. I mean, why write software that is only for the "geek"? It's
like a musician who spends his life practicing without ever standing on a
stage where people can hear him...
