Could this be interpreted to be that internally, when it's time to do the
gamut mapping portion of the work collink uses the gamut of the image
instead of the gamut of colorspace?
No, because collink doesn't have access to the images. It only
processes ICC profiles. tiffgamut is the tool that extracts
a gamut from an image, and so makes available the relevant
information to collink.
Know I'm really puzzle, I understand collink doesn't have access to the
image "directly", that's a given but the gamut we give collink is from the
source image (via tiffgamut) right? Now you say "and so makes available the
relevant information to collink". This relevant information, isn't it the
gamut we extracted using tiffgamut?
The first quote says, at least to me, the source gamut is coming ... from
the image (via tiffgamut) rather than the colorspace. So if we supply an
image gamut to collink, what does collink do with this gamut?
I assumed collink was using this image gamut we extracted via tiffgamut
instead or "rather" than the colorspace gamut.
