We give praise to God for blessing our efforts. Steve H. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Roxie Voran <roxie.voran@xxxxxxxxx> Date: Sun, Nov 17, 2013 at 7:58 PM Subject: Relief Sale Update To: stephen hochstetler <srh2pjh@xxxxxxxxx>, Mary Miller <dmmiller@xxxxxxxx>, Nancy & Joe Gatlin <jngatlin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>, Sharon Nance < snance@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>, Ryan Koch <pmcdallas@xxxxxxxxx>, SAMC Pastor < pastor@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>, Lee Lever <leelever@xxxxxxxxxxx> Everyone, Below is the summary of our Relief Sale that I'm sending to be distributed to MCC, other Relief Sales and various Mennonite publications. Please note that the total amount has now risen to above $60,000! Over the last week, I've discovered that my original estimate was too low and some additional donations have also come in. Thanks to all of you for your efforts and support of the overall effort, and please pass along appreciation to everyone in your congregation who stitched, baked, contributed pennies, and all the other acts of faithfulness that were part of this event. Blessings and Peace to all, Roxie The weather was beautiful, a good crowd was on hand, and people were generous. This was the formula for success at the 24th Texas Mennonite Sale & Auction for World Relief, which was held in Houston on November 9. The highlight of the Sale was a vintage quilt that brought $9,500 during the auction. The quilt was a crazy quilt design that dated from the 1920s and was made almost entirely of velvet, not unusual in those days. The quilt had been donated last year by someone in the community who was disposing of items from her mother's estate and read about our Sale in the newspaper. Although the quilt was generally in good condition, the edges were very frayed, so we arranged for someone to replace the binding before putting it into the auction this year. Of the 46 items in the quilt auction, three others also sold for $1,000 or more. The loaf of bread sold at the beginning of the auction brought $1,000. Donations were received during the auction in support of MCC's work in Syria and totaled $6,185. Additional donations of $3,525 were received for the Global Family Program. Foreign coins from at least 15 countries were saved from last year's Penny Power collection and were sold at auction this year for $90. Additional funds came from the sale of crafts, baked goods, Ten Thousand Villages crafts, Penny Power, and lunch which was prepared by members of several Texas Hispanic Mennonite Churches. Our bank has a machine that counts bulk coins at no charge as long as we don't exceed $250 in one day. So our Penny Power coin collection is being counted and deposited in increments of about $245 and the final total won't be determined for several more weeks. However, the total proceeds from the Sale will exceed $60,000. Our previous high total was $49,000 in 2009. As we give thanks to God for blessing our efforts, we are also beginning to look forward to our 25th Sale in 2014. -- Roxie Voran roxie.voran@xxxxxxxxx 713 416 4904 (cell) 713 416 1579 (home)
