An updated from Roxie, the relief sale coordinator in Houston. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: <rvoran@xxxxxxx> Date: Tue, Sep 23, 2008 at 8:05 AM Subject: Relief Sale Update Dear friends, Below is an update on Relief Sale preparations. It's in the body of this message because I don't have quite all the usual capabilities just yet; I apologize if it comes through looking kind of odd. I had planned on sending copies of our brochures to all of you by now, but the printer had a "weather-related delay." They should be ready any day now and I'll send them along as soon as I can. Roxie Voran SEPTEMBER 2008 UPDATE The Relief Sale is less than 2 months away and there are a few things I wanted to share with everyone. 1. We have 29 quilts that are already here. Our target is at least 30, so it looks like our quilt auction will be well stocked. But we can still use more! 1. We also have some nice woodworking already here and more on the way. But we can still use more! 1. Photos of a few quilts and other items are posted on our web site at * www.texasreliefsale.org* <http://www.texasreliefsale.org/>. Watch for more photos in the near future. If you have something you plan to donate to the sale, please send a photo to me at *rvoran@xxxxxxx*<rvoran@xxxxxxx>or to Steve Hochstetler at *srh2pjh@xxxxxxxxx* <srh2pjh@xxxxxxxxx>. 1. Feel free to be creative with your donations. Not all of us are quilters or woodworkers, but maybe there is something altogether different that we can offer. Let me know if you have questions or want to discuss some possibilities. 1. Don't forget to save pennies and other coins. Our Penny Power collection this year will support food projects. Many people are struggling to find enough affordable food for their families, so our pennies are especially important this year. Several people have expressed concern because of Hurricane Ike and everything that has happened in the Houston area. Maybe attendance at the sale will be down. Maybe people will have less money to spend. But as I write this in the dusky twilight with the aid of a flashlight, I believe that many of us understand now in a new way what life is like for so many people on this planet. What it's like not to know if your house will stand against the wind; what it's like when you don't know if the water is safe for your children to drink; what it's like when a properly flushing toilet is not an assumption but a pleasant surprise; what it's like when sunset means that the lights go out. We understand now—and we don't like it much. But for us it's different. We knew that the water would be safe again and we know that electric power will be restored. We know that it will end. Our challenge through the Relief Sale is to do whatever we can to make sure it ends for our neighbors around the world. I believe that people will join us in that important work. So this year, as every year, we will do what we can and we will trust God to bless and multiply our efforts. I invite all of you to participate in these efforts. Blessings and Peace to All, Roxie Voran
