There are tiny Pizio crystals (sorry, I am not sure of the spelling) in the ends. There are also some very tiny hard rubber ballbearings which have a constant pressure on them and can get flat spots over a period of time. This causes the sensor not to be as responsive. You gently rock the sensor back and forth slightly to move those little ballbearings to a new position so the sensor works better. Do this very slightly and gently.
