Ed-I charge the $5 for 'hooping' because when the customer goes to
Wallyworld or Big Lots or someplace else and buys a towel for $1.29 and
wants ME to embroidery it-he just cut ME out of making a markup profit on
the towel (or shirt, or jacket, whatever). So I charge the $5.00 because I
have to make $$ for EVERY minute I'm working on that order. Would you bring
your eggs and bacon and bread to the local cafe and expect them to make your
breakfast for free because you supplied the food? Or have a mechanic change
the oil and filter on your car and not charge you because you bought the
stuff at the discount store?
Thread costs are almost nothing per garment-we pay what, $7.50 or something
for the big roll of thread? I've had my machine for 14 months now-and we've
only used up maybe a dozen full size rolls and a couple small ones-yet we've
done a lot of embroidery. It's our TIME that costs money and we have to
charge for it. Insurance, electricity, rent, lease payments on the
Amaya...I"m paying almost $500 amonth just for that! So I have to charge for
everything I do-handling or sewing or digitizing...to make my 'hourly'
charge.
