Increasingly the dirvers that were known to be problematic are known to
have updates or will very shortly have them so more people should be
able to do service pack 1 as we go forward. To be honest I have found
this no worse than when I once discovered that XP service pack 1
disabled some drivers on my old XP laptop, knowing that this sometimes
can happen meant I just made sure the the drivers were updated before
the service pack went on.

Hi Tris. Thanks for this. The PC does indeed have Realtec AC97
soundcard
and this could well be the reason, so glad that's sorted out anyway.

cheers

Hi Graham

If you are intending to install from the stand alone update you should
do a little research to see if there is any obvious reason not to update
(mostly driver compatability issues that are being wiped out as we
speak). Otherwise wait for Windows Update to deliver it to you.

Here is a useful site that gives some compatability information:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=948343#method5
<http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=948343>

This is one useful resource about the service pack:
http://support.microsoft.com/ph/11732

I installed SP1 two or three weeks ago and this appears to have gone in
without incident.

Subject: [access-uk] installing vista SP1

Hi all.

I recently bought a Samsung Q45 laptop and I am in the process of
updating Vista and generally getting stuff installed on it.

I have heard that Vista SP1 is generally an improvement but that in
early versions of SP1 at least there were problems with some fairly
major manufacturer drivers so they did not release to general public
straight away.

I have checked for updates and installed them all and gone back to the
windows update site again to check. Vista SP1 is not yet shown as an
update so I have downloaded the stand alone version. Is it likely to be
OK to install this? I have temporarily turned off the User Accounts
option which pops up whenever a program wants to run otherwise and will
turn this back on once I have a reasonably settled system.

Regards
