Hi Kevin
Thanks so much for this, you clearly know your way round this program,
something I do not and find really confusing. I can get by at the most basic
level which means that if something doesn’t add up, I’m stuck! 😊
I’ll keep your messages and see what I can do when I get a couple of hours to
play around with iTunes again. Thanks again, you’re a star, and clearly my
go-to iTunes guru!
Kind regards,
Jackie Brown

Hi Jackie.
The way I’d tend to do this is to get iTunes to create a new library and I
wouldn’t uninstall anything.
When you start iTunes, if you press the shift key a few times very quickly
after pressing enter on the iTunes icon, you will get options to either choose
your iTunes library or create a new one.
If you press enter on the create a new library, you will be able to browse to
where you want your library to exist. The default is
C:\USERS\JACKIE\MUSIC\ITUNES
I used Jackie in the above but it depends what your PC is called.
You should create the library on the same drive that you intend to store your
music. For example, I keep my library and stored music on an external hard
drive as my laptop’s hard drive is not large enough for the volume of music I
own.
When you’ve created the new library you can use the preference settings to
choose the folder where your stored music will be kept. By default it will go
into the path above in an iTunes Media library but you can change that and, as
I mentioned, I have mine on an external drive. Having both the library and
stored music on the external drive means I can take that drive to any PC and
open iTunes by pressing shift and get it to open my library and stored music
straight away and have it instantly available.
The old library will still exist and you could go back to it if you wanted to
by selecting the choose a library when you start iTunes and press shift.
If you’ve chosen the same path for your stored music in your new library as you
used in the old library, your music should just automatically load into iTunes.
If not, you could either copy and paste your music folder into the
Automatically Add to iTunes folder which you will find in the iTunes folder and
then in the iTunes Media folder.
Alternatively, you could use the add folder option in iTunes file menu.
So, there are plenty of options available.
Regards.
Kev

Hi Kevin
I am definitely signed in, and am told there are no new downloads available.
I may start again from scratch to be honest, so any tips on removing and
reinstalling my iTunes music library would be great. What is the best way to
do this, please?
Kind regards,
Jackie Brown

That does sound strange.
If you use alt + A in iTunes, I would check that it shows you are signed in and
then use the option in there to check for available downloads.
If that doesn’t help, personally I’d be tempted to check that the sync is
working by making a small change to a tracks ID3 tracks in your iTunes
library. When you sync, it should see that change and hopefully initiate that
message to transfer purchases from your IOS device.
The latter I’d suggest in case iTunes is thinking you have nothing to sync from
your PC to the IOS device and so isn’t checking for purchases to transfer in
the reverse direction.
Clutching at straws though a little as they should transfer to your laptop when
you start the sync or download automatically if you have that option checked.
Regards.

Hi Kevin
You write:
When you say you have 2 albums in your iTunes library, does this mean they are
on a laptop and you sync them to your devices from there?
Or do you mean they are iTunes purchases made on your device and you want them
to sync to your iTunes library on the PC?
Yes, this is what I want to do, except that two albums, despite showing they
are purchased on my iOS devices, will not sync to my iTunes library on the PC.
You also say:
For iTunes purchases made on an IOS device, if you connect your device to your
PC, open iTunes and sync, you will get a message that you have purchases on
your device and would you like to transfer them to your iTunes library on the
PC and that is all that’s needed…
I do not receive that message.
Another option is to have your iTunes purchases download directly to your PC’s
iTunes library when you open iTunes. In this case, you need to have signed in
to iTunes using your Apple id and set iTunes to automatically download
purchases. To do this go to the edit menu and down to preferences. In
preferences there is a download tab which will allow you to tick music, films,
etc, so that they are automatically downloaded to your PC whenever you open
iTunes.
I have tried that too, but they still won’t move across to my iTunes library on
the PC. I’ve never encountered this problem with purchases before.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Kind regards,
Jackie Brown

I have an iTunes query which is different from Alison’s if I may pick someone’s
brains here.
I have two albums in my iTunes library that show up and play on both my iPhone
and iPad Mini running the latest iOS releases. But they won’t sync to my
library on the PC where I keep a backup. So how do I get those albums to sync
on the PC?
If you have any suggestions, please be gentle as I’m not that good around
iTunes in Windows. I am using the latest JAWS release.
Kind regards,
Jackie Brown

Hi Alison.
I think from your description that you should have the library tree view set to
Songs. If you use F6 until you hear the search edit field and then tab until
you pass the radio, store and other buttons, you’ll reach the library tree
view. Hit the letter S to set it to songs and then tab away from there into
your list views for genre, artist, album, etc.
If these list views have disappeared, use alt + V to open the view menu and
then arrow down until you see Column Browser. Press enter to switch on the
Column Browser.
It is possible that you may just have switched off the Column Browser so you
might want to try that first. If you don’t have the library tree view set to
Songs, you won’t see the Column Browser in the view menu.
Regards.

I am using the latest version of iTunes with the latest version of Jaws on
Windows 10.
I use iTunes at a relatively basic level, that being I have it set to read all
the genres, then all the artists, and then all the albums which then means that
it lists all the songs I have in its library.
But I have inadvertently lost my settings and Jaws isn’t reading what’s on
screen very well at all.
Any tips or am I going to have to borrow a pair of eyes?
