Andrew, I have gone and bought the wireless router package from Maplin. If
you mind, we were discussing the product, and I gave you the URL.
As you know, I want to move my computer system from one room into another.
Will I now be able to achieve this?.
I would be grateful if you could tell me how to set up the wireless router.
Is there any pitfalls ahead?.
I at the moment have a BT router. Would I need to remove all software for
this router.
Billy
Hi,
Actually this is more BT than Wanadoo.
BT use the same charge depending on whether the connection is at 8mb, 2mb, or 512k. The actual speed you connect at should be shown in the dialup logs of your router or in the statistics. There is also very complex rate limiting that goes on within the BT network, whereby if you connect at a higher speed then the connection is not stable they will rate limit you to a lower speed (especially if using a Max DSL product). Usually the ISP does not have control of this, but it helps if you have a friendly ISP to talk to, that doesn't use an Indian call centre etc. Sometimes one way of making the connection faster is to switch interleaving on, which can speed up some file downloads but can slow down some streaming content, but not significantly so.
Andrew.

Peter, that is so unfair, must be something you can do. Isn't there some kind of watch dog you could get in touch with?. Billy

perHi Jim, Personally, I'll never go with Wanadoo again. After paying 22 poundsmonth for the larger 2 gig download rate, and 19 pounds per month for
speedwhat I supposed was going to be 2 MB kbps of download speed, I found my connection really very slow. On checking I found that my downloadmywas more like 750 kbps per sec. I called Wanadoo and was told that BT inmyarea did not have the infrastructure to enable my 2 mb kbps rate. Fine, I suggested, that's understandable, so what about some kind of rebate onnot19 pounds per month? After all, I agreed to pay for 2 mb kbps, which I'mgetting, albeit due to BT and the lack of modern infrastructure, butcouldwe not come to some kind of agreement? . Tough, says wanadoo, youreadBehalfthe small print when you signed up, so ... too bad.

Hi List,
I'm about to bite the bullet and go for a broadband connection. I am currently with wanadoo and will probably stay with them. However, are the do's and dont's re broadband, what pitfalls might I encounter, all contributions welcome.
Many thanks in advance.
