Hello Damon and everyoneI went over to the I phone at the end of last year because my old nokia n95 was falling apart and my contract was up for renewal. I would have probably gone for the N 97 had it been fully supported by talks, but now I have the I phone I haven't looked back since. It works straight out of the box and a simple link up to iTunes and going into the settings menu and finding accessibility will activate the voice over immediately. Yes, there is a learning curve, but once you have played around with it for a while you do become more comfortable with it and that is when you start to wonder how on earth you ever got on without it. Also, you also learn more ways of doing various things through various gestures as well. All the best Martin

The reason I decided to go for the iPhone in the end is this rather political blog entry from Mike Calvo. He's saying we're on the brink of universal aaccessibility and should turn our backs on the status quo of assistive technology. Well, he kind of says this but also kind of suggests that assistive tech people should use mainstream platforms and devices, not ghetto gizmos: http://www.accessibilitynewsinternational.com/?p=1294&utm_source=twitter feed&utm_medium=twitter I'm not 100% behind his words but I felt moved to try the iPhone as a result. Not sure that's what he expected people to do. -----Original Message----- From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Lyn & Twinny Sent: 05 March 2010 10:30 To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: The dawning of a brave new world ... I would really be interested to read people's experiences with the I-phone. I use a mac at home but have never tried the Iphone. I am very happy with my Nokia N96. However, I would like, , to know for example how easy/hard it is to type a text message, to navigate the different menus and so on. So please, share your experience with me if you wish and feel free to do this off list if you do not wish to clutter the list with a lot of message that may not be of any interest to the people on this list. I hope to hear from some of you at some point about I-phone experience. Take care all and thanks for your time in sharing this with me.
