Hi David

Yeah I kind of wondered that. I just can't get my head round this thing wandering round your house while you leave it to its own devices, then hear it return to the docking station. I don't think I'd ever buy such a contraption, but I'd sure as hell love to see it in demo form.

We've currently got an Electrolux cleaner, and I think we'll probably go for something similar as it has served us well. Our lad reckons the Dyson Ball would be good for me because it's very lightweight, but I haven't come across it yet.

Jackie,

I have had a Dyson for years. It works well, but is very heavy, so I tend
to use a small rechargeable cleaner which is less powerful but much easier
to deal with.

I have seen a demonstration of the Roomba but it takes ages to clean a room,
and a review which I saw in a magazine thought that it cleaned only
moderately well. Sounds nice, but probably a bit of a gimmick.

In all seriousness, I'm in the market for a new vacuum-cleaner, and my son
keeps going on at me to buy a Dyson. I've not had much experience of them, but lots of people tell me they aren't as good as they are cracked up to be.
How have people got on with them?

And is the talking cleaner very heavy, and can you push it around manually
so to speak? After all, I'm used to having a proverbial broom following me
around. (smile.)

Oh no, not a talking Dyson! you've heard of Dyson's syndrome.... after
twelve months, suffers from loss of suction and constant whining....now
with a realistic voice! no no no, band from my house!

Hi

www.broadbandstuff.co.uk

Electroluxe also makes one and Dison is developing one.

A few others are available but none appears to have speech onboard.

This is the fifth generation Roomba

Right Deon, sounds fantastic! so where do you get it from? Don't mind
telling you I'm having a good old laugh at the idea of one of them

never come across anybody using one.

Hi all

Thought some might be as fed up as me with hoovering so thought I'd
pas this on.

Recently bought an IRobot Roomba 560 robot vacuum cleaner.

It comes with an onboard talking, voice demo.

The same female voice also gives instructions when problems arise,
e.g. clean brushes.

It gives audible operational warnings e.g. when docking, reversing out
of docking station, turning on, etc.

It comes with 2 virtual walls, does not fall down the stairs and goes
back to its docking station to recharge when the battery is low.

Sighted help is needed to set the time and date and set up schedules.
However, you don't have to set up schedules; just press the clean
button and off it goes.

Works pretty well to keep floors clean between major hoovering sessions.

Priced round £240.

Hope this makes life easier for some.
