It's an interesting idea, David. Certainly I do think that the only way that
many of the current suppliers of hi-tech equipment will survive will be for
them to merge - the market is too small to support so many companies supplying
similar or the same equipment.
I don't think they will disappear entirely though. The market for such
specialist equipment is too small for high street stores to find it profitable
enough to supply.
Remembering that most people losing their sight are elderly and retain a degree
of useful vision, I think the market for cctvs will remain and I doubt that
Navigator (or its equivalent) will ever be sophisticated enough to meet the
needs of high end users.
Ten years is a long time and I suspect the way we use technology will have
changed considerably, especially if devices like dvd players, central heating
controls etc. can be linked in with such things as Amazon Echo, etc., as is
already happening, but I doubt that the specialist suppliers will disappear -
they will just adapt.
