Hi. Briefly, though it can be tempting to go for al-in-one
scanner/printers, basically I do not because, if the thing breaks
down then its a printer and scanner you cannot use. Guess they
are pretty reliable though.

Don't think the space saving is too much of a bonus either. You
can get scanners which are certainly good enough for OCR work,
are very thin and some now which stand on there side. Remember
that copying is always part of the utilities software provided
with scanners now, so one-touch copying of documents to the
printer is easy-easy.

I have to admit, neither have I. I suppose I am being prejudice
here.

  Hi Barry,

That's what I thought but I've never seen one.

  Best.

  Robert.

My thoughts on these combo's is that if one part goes wrong,
you're stuck
with a white elephant. There may also be more to go wrong in a
combo than
  in separates.

Robert, I don't have one of these, but word on the street has
it that the
scanners in these things are not great. Having said that, my
mum has one,
and seems to get along with it just fine.
    Cheers.

    Hi Folks,

A blind friend of mine has just ordered a new computer from
Dell. He is
  also
in the market for a printer and scanner and is considering
getting one of
the machines that will do both jobs. Is anyone on the list
using one of
these and id so are they any good? Do they present any
problems for
  someone
who is totally blind and can they be used continuously, for
example when
    scanning books?

    Best.

    Robert.
