Hi all
I have a Dell OptiPlex 990 on my desk in the office which is what I am
typing this message on and I haven't had any problems with it so I am
wondering if it is a problem with certain models of Dell and not others.
Cheers! Graham

Hi Andy,
If you want to contact us off list, we could quote you for a custom built
computer, and even install your screen reader of choice.
All the best
Steve

Hi Roger.
I normally buy my computers from John Lewis in Glasgow and I too have been
thinking of buying a new computer as I'm so disappointed with Dell.
I'm thinking of a Hewlett Packard or Packard Bell.
Unfortunately, both PC World and John Lewis's websites are running
dreadfully at the moment, probably because there are no technical staff
working, but I'm really serious about changing.
Very best wishes.
Andy.

I also purchased a high end Dell tower about 2.5 years ago but have never
been happy with it from day one. Nothing specific but slow erratic running.
I don't use sound so the card is not connected to speakers so I have no idea
if it works or not but I will be buying a new tower as soon as the shops
open and I can get to them. It will not be a Dell.

Subject: [access-uk] Odd problem with Dell Tower computer
Hi all.
About 2 years ago I purchased a high end Dell Tower computer.
I dropped in JAWS 19:
Winamp;
Goldwave;
and Outlook express.
Almost immediately, I found that after playing a CD for about 5-8 minutes,
my sound card crashed.
I struggled for months with this and I think that by also installing Adobe
or Nero Burning Rom, the problem vanished.
Very recently I had absolutely no other option other to Reset the Dell a
second time . My sighted wife assisted by reading the initial set-up
screens.
I then reinstalled all of the above again and within a few minutes of
playing a CD the sound card crashed. Incidentally, this also turned off
JAWS.
I know that I have recently purchased a Maintenance agreement, so all will
be fine, ones the shops all open.
But has anyone ever heard of this problem happening before? Or perhaps you
may be aware of an easy fix or realise how I managed to fix the problem the
first time.
I feel that Adobe or Direct X may be the solution, but I cannot remember.
Any advice would be very welcomed.
Very best wishes.
Andy Logue.
