And that's another problem.
If you have Dell bloat which it relies on to update the hardware, and you do
a PC reset, you then have to reinstall all that bloat.
All the best

Subject: [access-uk] Re: Odd problem with Dell Tower computer
Hi again George.
As I said in my original message, George, I had only Reset my Dell 1 day
earlier.
This was a full Reset and so my wife assisted as there was no JAWS.
During the Reset I was asked about Language and Keyboard and my Microsoft
e-mail address and that was the primary questions.
After thoughs I got of supplementary questions asking if I wanted any of the
additional services Microsoft had for offer, Some of these had a cost and
sounded like features I did not need. My wife indicated that these were not
essential.
So perhaps I did miss an important feature, but I don't think so.
As for accidentally deleting something critical from my computer, well I'm
only able to delete items from My Documents, Music and Downloads, and none
of these I could call critical.
I don't even know what Boatwhare is George.
I just think it was very odd because, the problem of my sound crashing
initially happened when the computer was brand new.
As I said, I cannot recall how I managed to resolve this back then. Perhaps
a member on the Win 10 mailing list assisted me.
Very best wishes.
Andy.

Hi Andy,
In fairness, I have found DELL to be quite reliable, and indeed have 2 DELL
Servers and 3 DELL Workstations.
However, I suspect that one of the problems some users don't fully
understand is that many will remove what they believe to be unnecessary DELL
bloatware. This often therefore prevents them from updating vital
components in the hardware.

Hi there George.
Yes, this is indeed at the back of my head.
Steve has told me that he can build me a computer to my spec and that's
good, but first I need to deel with the Dell Maintence team.
When they open, they will probably arrange for my tower to be uplifted.
Then I need to wait to hear the results and of course, if nothing can be
done, I need then dispose of the Dell in an ethical way, for just how could
I recycle it when I knew there was a fundamental issue?
I actually purchased a budget computer from PCW which was incompatible with
JAWS. JAWS, simply would not work. I took it back to PCW and they accepted
the evidence and sold me, a Packard Bell computer, which was fine.
So not all computers enjoy an easy relationship with JAWS! And perhaps,
unfortunately , Dell is one of those.
Very best wishes.

Beware of PC World's Customer After Sales Service Department. It sucks to
the extent that I have had to make use of the Consumers Association legal
department. They have ignored two Special Delivery letters, and if you are
on Facebook you can check out all the many complaints about PC World and
Currys.

Hi Roger.
I normally buy my computers from John Lewis in Glasgow and I too have been
thinking of buying a new computer as I'm so disappointed with Dell.
I'm thinking of a Hewlett Packard or Packard Bell.
Unfortunately, both PC World and John Lewis's websites are running
dreadfully at the moment, probably because there are no technical staff
working, but I'm really serious about changing.
Very best wishes.
Andy.

I also purchased a high end Dell tower about 2.5 years ago but have never
been happy with it from day one. Nothing specific but slow erratic running.
I don't use sound so the card is not connected to speakers so I have no idea
if it works or not but I will be buying a new tower as soon as the shops
open and I can get to them. It will not be a Dell.

Subject: [access-uk] Odd problem with Dell Tower computer
Hi all.
About 2 years ago I purchased a high end Dell Tower computer.
I dropped in JAWS 19:
Winamp;
Goldwave;
and Outlook express.
Almost immediately, I found that after playing a CD for about 5-8 minutes,
my sound card crashed.
I struggled for months with this and I think that by also installing Adobe
or Nero Burning Rom, the problem vanished.
Very recently I had absolutely no other option other to Reset the Dell a
second time . My sighted wife assisted by reading the initial set-up
screens.
I then reinstalled all of the above again and within a few minutes of
playing a CD the sound card crashed. Incidentally, this also turned off
JAWS.
I know that I have recently purchased a Maintenance agreement, so all will
be fine, ones the shops all open.
But has anyone ever heard of this problem happening before? Or perhaps you
may be aware of an easy fix or realise how I managed to fix the problem the
first time.
I feel that Adobe or Direct X may be the solution, but I cannot remember.
Any advice would be very welcomed.
Very best wishes.
