Ok Doug. On my Vista laptop, to turn off my touchpad I have to do the following:

1. Start
2. Control Panel
3. Mouse
4. Shift control tab to other page.
5. Uncheck the "use touchpad and/or PS/2 mouse" check box.
6. Press enter.
Hope that helps.

Thanks Chris. With regard to your first suggestion, there is no mention of such a button in
the manual though.

I had a look for something of the type you suggest in Control Panel yesterday but with no luck. Perhaps part of the trouble is my unfamiliarity with the Vista Control Panel and its
enormous number of applets Still I will have another look today.

Of course I could resort to sticking a piece of cardboard over the buttons, but I am sure that it should be possible to disable them anyway. I still cannot understand why FN + f9 does
not work on this machine.

Thanks for your help,

Douglas

Hi, two possibilities. There may be a button on the touchpad itself (I don't recall Toshiba laptops having these though, unless they've changed), or you can disable it through mouse properties in control panel. Hope that helps.
